The door looms in the distance. Large, ornate, beautiful. Forever and a day is how long it seems that it has taken to get here.
You see it as you get closer, almost as if the door, the dream door, is beckoning you.
You have walked down this seemingly never ending corridor, and gazed longingly at this door for what seems like an eternity. Light twinkles from around its frame, dazzling light that hints at the beauty beyond once the door is opened by you. In fact, you almost have to squint your eyes against the light, it is just that bright, and your heart quickens as you near your destination.
The illumination of the light beyond offers hope and a reprieve from the darkness of the poorly lit hall you have just traveled. The hall has been one heck of a journey.
Hard work, perseverance, and sheer determination have kept you going. Placing one foot in front of the other, your eyes on the prize, the dream door, never wavering. The journey has been long, the excuses to quit have been plentiful, but you’ve kept at it. Your dream is worth it.
The door? It is even bigger than you imagined, larger than it looked from a distance. It towers over you, almost intimidating. And beautiful? Definitely. It seems almost too good to be true. Could this work of art really be the doorway for you? The door is everything you imagined it would be, and more.
Close your eyes. Picture it. Your dream door. Yours. Revel in the beauty of what you imagined. The design. The details. The color, and even the material it is made of. It’s everything you dreamed, because it’s your dream door.
Yes, it has taken you a long time to arrive. You stare at it. The sheer size of it is daunting, but you were never one to dream small. So you take a moment to gather yourself, and relish in the pure joy of your arrival. You can’t wait to open it!
Yet, part of you is a little afraid.
That tiny part.
That part of you that doubts yourself. The part of you that whispers that you aren’t good enough for such a dream. The part that tries to hold you back, lying to you about your worth, your beauty, your strength. That part. That part of us we all wish we could eliminate forever. The fear of failure, of disappointment. The lingering thought that maybe what lies beyond the threshold isn’t as magical as you imagined.
You take a deep breath. Stomping the negativity down, you reach forward, hand trembling with anticipation and a touch of nerves. You place your hand on the knob in front of you and turn it. You’re doing it! You’re opening the door to your dreams!
Your heart sinks.
The door, your dream door, is locked.
Locked! How can this be?You’ve come so far, you’ve worked so hard, and the door is locked?
Frustration overwhelms you. You wiggle it. You rattle it. You jerk the knob back and forth, and then you knock. Timidly at first, then angrily. You don’t really expect anybody else to open your dream door for you, but what gives? Why is this even happening?
Upset, you turn your back to the door, and gaze at how far you’ve come. You remember every hardship, every bump along the road that brought you here. You don’t want to go back. Not now, not ever.
Wearily you slide to the floor, back to the door until you are sitting slumped at the foot of it. Unsure of what to do, you try to think of a solution. As your mind tumbles through scenarios short of buying an axe and chopping your way in and destroying your beautiful door, you hear something. Barely.
Shhhh. Be still. Listen.
Do you hear it? The quiet voice? The words, they float to you, soft, gentle yet firm, and all at once you know exactly what you need.
The Dream Key.
That one of a kind key, made just for you, for that one of a kind door.
Of course it’s locked! It’s your dream door, and nobody else was meant to just waltz right through it! Nobody else was meant for your dream! You just have to figure out how to get your searching, hard working hands on the dream key. You’re not giving up! Not now. Not ever!
So how do you get the dream key? I’ll tell you a little secret. Except it’s not much of a secret.
Friend, who do you think put this dream in your heart?
So who do you think holds the key?
Yep, you guessed it.
You’ve worked so hard to get here, so don’t turn around now. Ask the Lord for the key!
Now, I don’t know what your particular dream is, but I do believe God put your dream in your heart. I believe God has led me to write this, and to tell you that your dream door can be opened. You just need His direction to find the dream key.
Your key may be in the form of the right person at the right time, or maybe a fresh new idea, a new job, a baby, a spouse, healing, a book, your artwork, or whatever your mind is spinning around on a daily basis. Whatever you are completely consumed with, if it has to do with your passion, your talents, your heart, I know God has put it there for a purpose, and to fulfill your purpose. All you need is the key to open up the possibilities.
God holds your dream key. He’s just been waiting for you to ask Him, instead of trying to do it ALL on your own (trying to take on everything by ourselves is one of our very biggest flaws).
The dream God put in your heart? Your dream. Your ideas. Your passion. Your talent. Your door. Your key. His plan. His purpose. His will. His timing. His love. His grace.
ALL OF IT.
It all leads to the key.
So ask. Knock, search, listen. Do not give up. Ask Him for the dream key, trust God and wait, and just watch.
When it all unfolds, and when you hold that dream key in your hand, when you turn the lock and hear the click of the latch being opened, you will open the door to a dream even better than you imagined. All it takes is a lot of hard work, a lot of patience, a lot of faith, and the dream key.
I pray that when your dream seems unattainable, that you will have the wisdom to ask for the dream key from the very one who created dreams.
God bless you,

There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many oppose me.
1 Corinthians 16:9
Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.
“Here comes the dreamer!” they said.
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.
Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!
For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
