No Tomorrow

There is no perfect tomorrow. There is only today, and while it may not be perfect, it is time for you to act.

Life is not perfect, this present life anyway. Life is a beautiful, horrible, tangled mess that sometimes makes you jump for joy, and at other times knocks you flat on your back. I’m just using the words God gives me to tell you that today is the day.

Today is the day to try something new. Today is the day to get that thing you’ve been putting off done. Today is the day to smile, to help somebody, to fiddle with your hobby, to work hard, to go the extra mile, to dream big, and to pray.

Why? Because there may be no tomorrow. That phone call or visit you were putting off because you thought you had plenty of time? Well maybe you don’t. That super big dream you’ve been carrying around in your heart? Trust me there’s no time like today to start. There will not be a better time, a better tomorrow. While you wait for the perfect day after today, your dream might slowly slip away. You don’t feel so energetic? Don’t want to give it your all? You’ll do better tomorrow? Well what if today, at work, the right person was watching your performance, and you never knew? The one who could open doors for you, but you felt like working harder tomorrow? They’ve seen enough today, and there will be no second chance, no tomorrow. So give it all you have, today.

I’ve been the queen of many no tomorrows, and God has enlightened me on the error of my ways. My procrastinating and waiting for the best opportunity to come to me, has backfired on more than one occasion. Most recently, by the death of a friend, taken too quickly. I put off a coffee date, for a perfect day, with the perfect amount of time, so I could have the perfect tomorrow with my sick friend. I wanted everything perfect, my perfect gift to her, the perfect jokes I was going to tell her to cheer her on during the fight of her life, everything was going to be perfect! I was preparing for a perfect tomorrow. Instead, abruptly, and sooner than she was supposed too, my friend passed away. I was left with a few loving messages on my phone, and no tomorrow.

My heart was broken. I called out to God. “Why?” I asked of Him.

I mean, I was supposed to see her in just a few days. It was going to be perfect. Perfectly perfect!

But it wasn’t. I was lost. Feeling guilty. Sad. I was left with a gift I never got to give, and no tomorrow.

And then God spoke to me. Through my beautiful friend, through her passing on to her eternal and perfect tomorrow, I learned. You see, my friend and my Lord had a very important message for me, and for you as well.

Today is the Day.

Today is the day, it always has been. If you can do it today, why don’t you? If you need to make that one phone call, or take that leap of faith, or start that project you’ve been dreaming about, or dust off that Bible, why don’t you just do it?

There is no better time than this day, the one God has given to you. We never know how many tomorrows we have left, and one day, we will all have no tomorrow. So make today your day.

Regret is a horrible thing. Regret is bitter, and leaves you with an empty spot in your heart. Regret is a hard slap in the face, and the tears are very real. Regret is for the people who are waiting for the perfect tomorrows, the tomorrows that never seem to get here.

Quit waiting. Do that thing, because today, God’s gift of life is perfect. Just jump in, the water is perfect, the sun is ready to shine upon your face, and tomorrow it might be storming! You just never know what tomorrow brings, and you weren’t meant to. What you were meant to do is everything you can, the best that you can, today.

God says get moving! Quit waiting! Trust Him and go! Don’t live with the regret of a no tomorrow.

Be blessed,

Ray

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.

God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
