Do you find yourself struggling to find the solution to your problems? All of them? This world’s and your own?
The answers seem to be right there, or so it seems. Right there, in front of you, just dangling out of reach. The solutions tickle your mind, teasing, almost torturing you with their elusiveness, and just when you think you’ve found an answer, the answer, that answer just hops away like a crazy little rabbit on drugs. Hyper and nonsensical, it leads you on a wild goose chase, and the next thing you know, you are falling….
Down you go, down the rabbit hole of this unstable life, where nothing seems to make sense anymore, the things you thought you had figured out are turned upside down, where everything seems to be part of a strange and macabre wonderland of twisted confusion. Welcome to this topsy-turvy wonderland we call life.
Is this you? Are you struggling to make sense of it all? To provide and to protect? To help? To serve? To just keep your head above the waters? Do you have the best of intentions, but still somehow seem to fall flat? Welcome to the club, my friend. No matter what it looks like, or how it seems, nobody has it all figured out. This world is not as bad as it looks, and you are definitely not alone.
What you need to do is make The Choice. What pray tell, could that be? Well, my amazing friend, that depends on you. The Choice is different for all of us, takes a different amount of time for us to arrive individually, and requirements change at certain points in our lives as we grow. Despite that, The Choice is also the same for all of us. Let me elaborate.
The Choice depends on the question. Do you need to do more to help people? Or less, so that they may learn to help themselves? This is a difficult one (trust me). Do you need a new direction, or do you need to stay on the same path, no matter how difficult it may seem? A new job? Or more blood, sweat, and tears into the current one? Do you need to give more attention to social issues, or are you perhaps questioning your own stance? Do you continue to forgive, even if you can’t forget, or do you start all over from scratch? Do you have this overwhelming feeling that things just can not stay the way they are, yet you aren’t even sure where to begin to change them?
After all, you are only one person. What can you do? How can you change anything? How can you be the change, how can you even change? How can what you do, the decisions you make, the paths you choose even matter, when you look at the scope and magnitude of the issues in your own home, city, state, nation, world? I mean, honestly, is there anything you can even do, all by yourself?
The answer is a resounding YES.
The answer is simple really.
You need to make The Choice.
One person, one thought, one circumstance, one choice can change the world. I can give you many examples. History teaches us about many brave individuals who took a stand, made a choice and brought change.
Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Albert Einstein. William Shakespeare, Rosa parks, Florence Nightingale, Jesse Owens. Candy Lightner, Martin Luther King Jr. Michelangelo, Marie Curie, Ryan White. Malala Yousafzai, Aristotle, Shirley Chrisholm, Emmaline Parkhurst, Todd Beamer, Harriet Tubman, Beethoven.
Just to name a few. There are many, many more. In fact, I am doing these game changers, and these world changers an absolute injustice by not going into detail about their individual accomplishments. What they did, what they stood for, what changes they made. All of them have something in common, all of them made The Choice. The decision to step forward to take action, to set examples that deserve our respect and attention. And, since you have the gift of a vast amount of information available to you with the flick of a few fingers, a couple clicks of a mouse, or gasp…. A library card, I suggest you do your own research about the people who came before us, that may even give you a little courage and a whole lot of inspiration to make your own decisions, and to make The Choice.
Right now, I am going to focus on a specific game changer, the ultimate one. The one who’s life and death changed all of ours, whether we have accepted that change or not. THE ONE. The man who made The Choice to lay down His life in exchange for ours. He chose love. And so should we.
Jesus Christ lived and died for human kind. For every race, male or female, young or old, good or bad, rich or poor, strong or weak. He made The ultimate Choice, and paid the ultimate price so that you could live and continue to make the choices you make, good or bad, and be forgiven, and be a game changer and a world changer too. He died for you. YOU.
So when you feel lonely, guilty, helpless, weak, angry, or fired up, you really do have somewhere to turn, someone who understands, someone who cares, someone who actually helps. You have Jesus, and He is always there.
Lay all of your burdens at His feet. Ask for help, so you may be the helper this world needs. Ask for forgiveness, so that you may forgive. Ask for strength so that you may strengthen.
Make The Choice. Make the decision to turn to the One who made The Choice to change the entire world with love.
Because love? It walks through fire for others. Love is brave. Love shines out for others. Love takes a stand. Love is contagious. Love is a game changer, and a world changer. Love is a choice. Love is The Choice.
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:14
Love your neighbor. Not just the neighbor who thinks like you, acts like you, looks like you. No, those other neighbors too. Love them all fiercely, with all of your heart. The good and the not so good. Talk to them. Pray for them. Learn from them. Experience them. Just open your heart to them.
Step out of your own little yard, out of your own little neighborhood, out of your own little mind, and explore the rest of the world. The world of diversity, with different thoughts, different views, different ideas. Step out of your head, out of your yard, and make The Choice.
The Choice to better yourself.
The Choice to try something new.
The Choice to take a stand.
The Choice to change the world.
The Choice to love your neighbor.
You. All by yourself. Yes, you. You can do it.
Do you know how yet? You can change the world by yourself, and with others, when you make The Choice.
The Choice to choose Jesus.
The Choice to love.
The Choice to forgive.
The Choice to heal.
The Choice to preach.
The Choice to take a stand.
The Choice to live and to die by the Word of God, for others and for yourself.
So do it. Make those choices. The little ones and the big ones. Be a better parent to mold and change the world. Be a better spouse and partner to change the world. Be a better friend and support to change the world. Be a better student and learn to change the world. Be a better neighbor and love enough to change the world.
You got this! You got Jesus! And if you don’t? Get Him. Make The Choice. Today and every day. So go ahead, do it!
That decision you were wondering about? That little one or that great big one? Go for it. Make The Choice! When you have God backing you up? Absolutely nothing is impossible.
So go on and change the world, one brave decision at a time. No matter how ordinary you feel, or no matter how irrelevant you think you are. God will make use of you, I promise. He loves to take the ordinary, and make them extraordinary, to show His glory. You hold a better world in your heart, and in your hands one choice at a time. The Choice is yours.
God bless you,

Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways.
Who, then, are those who fear the Lord ? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live
I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws.
May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
