Are you aware that life as you know it may be over? Are you aware that some of your routines, rituals, and habits may have been disrupted forever? Are you aware that this is totally okay? Are you really aware?
The world is changing. Evolving, racing forward, and it is hard to keep up. In fact, some of us may feel left behind. Your mind is spinning as you try to keep up with the latest information, but for every story you read, there is another one saying the exact opposite. For every friend you have saying one thing, there is another saying something else. In fact some people are fighting, arguing, and saying things they may not mean. Social media? It is definitely a hotspot for anger and discord, and definitely full of some misinformation. Everyone and everything seems to be contradicting, no one can seem to agree, and it’s frustrating. Some of us feel overwhelmed. I am aware of that.
I think one thing we can all agree on is that times are changing. I know we are all aware that sometimes change is painful. I definitely think we are all aware that sometimes change is absolutely necessary.
I am aware that I have been unaware. I hate to say it, and some of you may not agree, but I believe that a lot of us have been spoiled and complacent. Definitely there are things that are uncomfortable, and even painful, yet there is beauty in discomfort, because it is making you aware. It is time for change, and since we couldn’t seem to do it for ourselves, it seems as if God is going to do it for us.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 43:19
So what do you do now? Your eyes are being opened. You are being made aware. You are in the midst of realizing what is truly important. Things that were so common, so everyday, that you may have taken them for granted. You maybe even forgot to be thankful for those things. I know I did. You forgot. And so did I. And then we were shown how everything can change in the blink of an eye, and that the things that seemed important are nowhere near as important as the things that really are important. Not things. People. People are our most valuable asset, and now you and I are more aware.
We are aware.
Aware that control is an illusion, and that we have none.
We are aware.
Aware how something that you can’t even see has the power to cripple the economy, and take loved ones, but has no power over our faith.
We are aware.
Aware of injustice, inequality, and a world in desperate need of change. A world that needs Jesus.
Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
Psalms 119:18
We are more than aware now. We are being changed, and change is so beautiful. I am aware of how beautiful you are. How you are God’s masterpiece. I see you. I am aware.
Yes, everything is changing. Some things are scary. Some things hurt. Some of these things are here to stay, yet some will be gone eventually, and we will have come out of this stronger because of them. I say, good! Let this world change! Let our hearts change! Let it all be worth it, because we all become better! Lord, make me more aware!
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26
I want to be aware of what I took for granted, so that I may never take it for granted again.
I want to be aware of my neighbor so that I may help my neighbor.
I want to be aware of how people have been treated unfairly, so that I may be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
AND, I want to be aware of how God’s hand is in everything, working things together for my good, and for your good. I want to be aware that when the dust settles and the smoke clears, that this world that so desperately needed change has been changed for the better. I want to be aware of how I can contribute to that.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
So yes, I am aware.
Are you?
Change hurts. Change is uncomfortable. Change is beautiful. Just ask a butterfly.
I need to be more aware of you, and you need to be more aware of me, and we both need to be more aware of God. I need to love you more, and maybe you can love me back. I am aware that we all need help. We need to pray. We need love. We need Jesus.
However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him—
1 Corinthians 2:9
I am finally aware. I think that you may be too. Let’s change this world together. Completely aware.
God bless,
Ray
